Derma Defense

The Invisible Silicone Glove

Each year, at a huge cost to companies and governments, thousands of man-hours are lost due to chemical/caustic burns and industrial dermatitis. In addition, we are still only learning about the long term effects of contaminants being absorbed through our skin.

Derma Defense is a patented skin protectant that starts to work 4-5 minutes after application. Derma Defense forms a non-toxic and invisible barrier which maintains its integrity even after repeated washings. It does not affect your sense of touch, and it allows your skin to breathe and perspire normally. While protecting you against most skin irritants, it is also nurturing your skin with moisturizing ingredients such as Lanolin, Aloe Vera, and Vitamin E.

Derma Defense works by bonding with the top layer of dead and dying skin cells, creating a barrier which helps protect the skin from penetration of undersirable elements. Derma Defense is manufactured as an emulsion which is hydrophilic (water-loving) while it is in the container. When it is applied to the skin, the water within Derma Defense evaporates, causing the layer of product to become hydrophobic (water-hating). This gives Derma Defense its “waterproofing” ability.

Derma Defense will protect the skin against such chemicals as:

Acrylics
Ammonium Hydroxide
Benzene
Betadine
Cement
Clorox Bleach
Fertilizers
Fiberglass
Formaldehyde
Grease & Oil
Hydrogen Peroxide
Industrial Disinfectants
Paints
Paint Thinners
Poison Ivy
Posion Oak
Washing Detergents
Zinc Oxide

Derma Defense Case Study

D.S. is a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) working in a continuing care facility. Frequent handwashing and glove use is required as part of her work. She reports that her hand condition (dry, red, raised, irritated and itchy patches) is becoming worse. Often her hand condition improves on her days off but after she has returned to work for one shift her hands become irritated, red and itchy again. She has tried many different hand creams including a moisturizing barrier cream that is available to staff for difficult to treat hand conditions.

A sample of Derma Defense was supplied to D.S. on Feb 4, 2002. By Feb 21, 2002, D.S. reports that the Derma Defense sample has dramatically improved her hand condition and on a visual inspection no redness or irritation can be observed.
